Identification and Correction of Clock Asymmetry in the Ers–1 and Ers–2 Radar Altimeters

چکیده
During the Commissioning Phase of ERS–2 a relative calibration exercise was performed in which ERS–1 and ERS–2 altimeter data, obtained with a one-day separation in time, were compared. Many groups noticed a step change in the relative bias of 3–4 cm which occurred on 1 August 1995, and closer examination of the data-set revealed others. An example of the relative bias estimate, revealing a number of such step-changes, or jumps, is shown in Fig. 1.

The Time Tag Bias of Ers Altimeter Data
The time tags attached to the altimeter measurements featuring on the ERS-1 and ERS-2 precise ocean products (OPR) are systematically early by over a millisecond. Apart from a mean offset, the timing error also exhibits an annual variation. Although this timing error was discovered already some years ago [1], an explanation was never found. Object of this paper is to examine possible causes of ...

متن کاملImproved description of the ocean mesoscale variability by combining four satellite altimeters
Data from four satellite altimeters are combined with the aim of improving the representation of the mesoscale variability in the Global Ocean. All missions [Jason-1, ERS-2/ENVISAT, Topex/Poseidon interleaved with Jason-1 and Geosat Follow-On] are cross-calibrated previously to produce weekly gridded maps. In areas of intense variability, the rms differences between a classical configuration of...
